Reality bytes: Taekwondo exponent, racer and sailor show gaming chops at e-sports Olympic event
SINGAPORE — Anyone who thinks e-sports are passive should watch 14-year-old taekwondo exponent Jadon Yu in action at a first-of-its-type international event underway in Singapore under the banner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
- Singapore has been hosting the inaugural Olympic Esports Series Week 2023 which combines some physical moves with online games
- Team Singapore boasts 17 players across nine virtual sports, who are competing against more than 100 international players from more than 60 countries
- 14-year-old taekwondo exponent Jadon Yu is the youngest in the Singapore team and told TODAY the e-sport version combines two of this favourite activities, video games and taekwondo
- Motorsport racer Ar Muhammad Aleef said e-racing enables him to enjoy his sport without the high cost of competing in traditional motor sports
