Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 4: Denise Phua on re-imagining education

04:31 Min
In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 3), MP Denise Phua called for "disruptive innovation” in Singapore’s education system, given the changes to teaching and learning wrought by the COVID-19 crisis, and the fact that future jobs will be much more complex and multi-disciplinary. She said past reviews were mostly about fine-tuning the existing system while retaining its main pillars. Ms Phua asked that the Ministry of Education conduct a national exercise to answer the question: What would be the ideal education system for Singapore if it were starting from a clean slate?
